CERIC Marketing Director Sharon Ferriss provided insights from CERIC’s survey with Environics Research on Public Perceptions about Career Development and the Workplace, on Career Buzz radio last week.

The discussion covered key highlights from the survey, including:

  • More than 80% of Canadians are satisfied with their jobs, but less happy with remuneration
  • The use of social media, such as LinkedIn and Facebook, as a job search tool was surprisingly low
  • Young Canadians view their parents as helpful with careers not as helicopter moms and dads
  • Nearly half of Canadians are unclear what they need to do to advance in their organizations
  • While professional career counsellors are valued, fewer people are certain they would use one

During the interview with host Mark Franklin that aired on CIUT FM in Toronto on Sept. 9 , Ferriss also shared advice from her own career, talking about the choices that led her to where she is today.
