CERIC’s Summer Skills Academy meets your need for training that is face-to-face, in-depth, and, importantly, fits your budget.

Designed for career practitioners, executive directors and other professionals with an interest in career development, this series of seminars covers a range of carefully selected topics.

Attendees select one of the 3 seminars. You spend the full two days in a single seminar doing intensive training with your seminar leader. But you also benefit from networking with participants in the other seminars during breaks and lunches.

You register for one of the following seminars. This is the seminar you will be attending for the full two days. Some seminars have special requirements as noted and follow-up may be needed. Any handouts or other materials will be distributed on-site.

Rates

We are offering you 2 full days with the same seminar leader. You can choose one of 4 seminars. Three are offered for the Early Bird rate of $379 and Final rate of $449. We are also offering limited seating for a seminar with Daniel Cushing for the Early Bird rate of $685 and Final rate of $795.

Make it a Team event! Send staff to each seminar to maximize your organization’s learning. Register 4 or more people from the same organization at the same time and save 10%.

Schedule

Please check-in upon arrival at the CERIC welcome desk on the conference floor, starting at 8:15 am. The conference floor is one level below and accessed from the right of the hotel registration desk on the main floor. The seminars will start at 9:00 am sharp and all seminar rooms are located on the conference floor. The schedule for both days is as follows:

Meals and Refreshments

When you register you will be given an option to notify us of any dietary issues. We work closely with the hotel to ensure that all reasonable requests are met but this is not always possible. We thank you in advance for your understanding. Breakfast and lunch are included on both days as are mid-morning and mid-afternoon refreshments where you will be able to network with delegates from other seminars.

Getting There

Driving

Bay Street is a major north-south road in downtown Toronto. Beginning at Queens Quay West in the south, the thoroughfare heads north to end at Davenport Road just north of Bloor Street. The Marriott is on the southeast corner of Bay Street below Dundas Street West.

Parking

The parking garage with the best rates is the Bay/Dundas Parkade, located on Bay Street, south of Dundas Street, north of Queen Street. The daily rate is $16. The Marriott offers on-site parking for a higher rate.

Public Transit

From Dundas Subway Station (southbound from Bloor or northbound from Union on the Yonge line) walk west on Dundas Street to Bay Street. The Marriott is on the southeast corner of Bay Street below Dundas Street West. Approximate time from Dundas Station: 5-minute walk.

From St. Patrick Subway Station (southbound from Bloor or northbound from Union on the University line) walk east on Dundas Street to Bay Street. The Marriott is on the southeast corner of Bay Street below Dundas Street West. Approximate time from St. Patrick Station: 7-minute walk.

Airport

Airport taxis and limousines are available at Lester B. Pearson International Airport from all terminals. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes and the cost is approximately $60. The Airport Express shuttle picks up from the Arrivals level of each terminal and drops you off at Chestnut Street, which is one block southwest of the Marriott. Book discounted tickets online. Rate and schedule information is available at www.torontoairportexpress.com and look for the stop listed under “U of T Residence.”

The Billy Bishop Toronto City airport is only about a 10-minute drive away from the Marriott Eaton Centre and a cab costs approximately $20.

Other Travel Options

Traveling by train offers a convenient option with Union Station less than 1 km away from the Marriott. The bus is another alternative with the Toronto Coach Station located across the street from the hotel.

Support Persons Policy

The registration fee for any person who is considered to be a support person accompanying an attendee with a disability will be waived.

Scent-free Policy

In response to health concerns, CERIC wishes to limit the use of scented products at its events. Scented products such as hair sprays, perfume and scented deodorants may trigger reactions such as respiratory distress and headaches. In consideration of others, people attending the event are asked to limit or refrain from using scented products. Your co-operation is appreciated.

Cancellation Policy

Requests for cancellation(s) must be made by emailing your request to registration@ceric.ca. Cancellation requests must be received before July 31, 2014 at 5:00 pm ET. NO REFUNDS are granted after July 31.

An administrative fee on a sliding scale will be deducted from any refund for a Summer Skills registration as follows:

  • 20% fee for cancellations requested by May 30, 2014, 5:00 pm ET
  • 30% fee for cancellations requested by July 31, 2014, 5:00 pm ET

If a cancellation to a group conference registration order results in fewer than 4 delegates attending, the group discount no longer applies and this difference will be deducted before your refund is issued.

Refunds will be issued within two weeks after receipt of the written notice.

It is regrettable that you are unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances. Although we sympathize please note that we have a cancellation policy that helps us cover fixed costs due to non-attendance, regardless of circumstance (food and beverage orders and transaction costs associated with your registration – none of these can be altered so there are real costs involved).

Delegate substitutions are permissible. Please notify us at registration@ceric.ca if you intend to transfer your registration to another person. Supply us with that person’s name and contact information, including their email address.
