J\u2019ai demand\u00e9 \u00e0 ma famille, mes coll\u00e8gues et mes professeurs (mais pas \u00e0 mon c.o.! mea culpa\u2026) si une ann\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger pourrait nuire \u00e0 ma carri\u00e8re ou mes \u00e9tudes, si \u00e7a valait la peine ou non. Plusieurs d\u2019entre eux ont tent\u00e9 de me dissuader.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>En 2008, j\u2019ai quitt\u00e9 le Canada avec \u00e0 peine 2000 $ en banque et une ma\u00eetrise de l\u2019anglais tout juste fonctionnelle. Ce fut la meilleure d\u00e9cision de ma vie. Les 16 mois qui ont suivi m\u2019ont vu travailler dans un bureau de poste, prendre des cours de Maori, faire du b\u00e9n\u00e9volat dans une \u00e9cole, apprendre \u00e0 r\u00e9parer des lunettes, travailler au t\u00e9l\u00e9phone en Australie (\u00ab\u00a0D\u00e9sol\u00e9e, je n\u2019ai pas compris, pourriez-vous r\u00e9p\u00e9ter s\u2019il-vous-pla\u00eet?\u00a0\u00bb avec un gros accent fran\u00e7ais, encore, et encore, et encore), passer le Nouvel an chinois dans une famille \u00e0 Singapour et apprendre \u00e0 n\u00e9gocier en mandarin avec un vendeur de rue (je ne sais pas c\u2019\u00e9tait quoi ce qu\u2019il cuisinait, mais c\u2019\u00e9tait d\u00e9licieux!).<\/p>\n<p>N\u2019\u00e9coutez pas les parents nerveux\u00a0: c\u2019est une excellente d\u00e9cision professionnelle. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 mon ann\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger, j\u2019ai toujours des histoires \u00e0 raconter pour prouver mes comp\u00e9tences et mon anglais s\u2019est dramatiquement am\u00e9lior\u00e9. J\u2019ai test\u00e9 mes habilet\u00e9s en r\u00e9solution de probl\u00e8mes, en d\u00e9brouillardise et en cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9. J\u2019ai d\u00fb composer avec la solitude, le mal du pays, le ch\u00f4mage et la pression financi\u00e8re. J\u2019ai d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 toutes sortes de nouvelles comp\u00e9tences, ce qui m\u2019a permis d\u2019explorer mes int\u00e9r\u00eats d\u2019une fa\u00e7on que l\u2019\u00e9cole n\u2019aurait jamais pu me procurer.<\/p>\n<p>Dans son allocution au congr\u00e8s Cannexus l\u2019an dernier,<a href=\"http:\/\/cannexus.ca\/fr\/cannexus-14-conferenciers-dhonneur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Stephen Lewis<\/a>\u00a0a mentionn\u00e9 que les praticiens en d\u00e9veloppement de carri\u00e8re, pour diff\u00e9rentes raisons, ne recommandent que rarement des choix de carri\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019international. Il a ainsi inspir\u00e9 ce num\u00e9ro de\u00a0<em>Careering<\/em>\u00a0sur les carri\u00e8res internationales, qui vise \u00e0 vous donner des conseils pratiques pour mieux aider le groupe grandissant des jeunes et des moins jeunes qui recherchent une carri\u00e8re sans fronti\u00e8res.
