Don’t Go It Alone

Summary: My idea is to have career professionals go in to high schools, colleges and universities and facilitate a workshop on Career Professionals. It would be very interactive, with students allowed to ask questions at all times. I came up with this idea from working with many youth transitioning to the workplace or wanting career advice, who were not adequately served by their learning institutions.
A) It could be developed as a workshop, powerpoint presentation, or e-learning segment;
B) Target groups – high school, college and university students;
C) Funding partners such as CERIC, non-profit employment agencies, or government funding would be required – either to hire a person to set up the e-format segment, or to pay presenters;
D) The project is ready to use immediately and is already created as a workshop. It would require several weeks to set up as an e-format on a website such as CERIC’s. Learning institutions, in particular their career services/guidance counsellors would need several weeks further – to buy in to the idea – for e format. Completion in three months from outset is reasonable. The workshop presentation format may be requested by CERIC Judges at any time for previewing.
Perceived Impact: An increase in use of, and respect for, career professionals, and the excellent service they offer. Especially as most non-profit agencies are now required to be “One Stop Shops”, services are all encompassing – including youth with disabilities, youth programs and student services. Most youth are referred to such services by either Employment Insurance or Social Assistance services. This initiative would open the doors to ALL youth and have a positive effective on the industry.
