10 Questions for Premier Kathleen Wynne
Kathleen Wynne is Ontario’s 25th Premier. She was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 as the MPP for Don Valley West. Wynne was re-elected in 2007, 2011 and 2014. She became the leader of the Ontario Liberal Party in January 2013. Wynne has three adult children, Chris, Jessie and Maggie, and three grandchildren.
In one sentence, describe why career development matters.
When it comes to careers, young people need to understand the choices they have, and they need to be encouraged to grow and excel in their chosen career paths so that everyone can be at their best in our society.
Which book are you reading right now?
I’m always reading a fiction and non-fiction book at the same time. Right now I’m reading The Hero’s Walk by Anita Rau Badami and Epiphany by Michael Coren.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher.
Name one thing you wouldn’t be able to work without?
I’m going to cheat a little bit and say three things — smart and hardworking staff, my phone and a notebook.
What activity do you usually turn to when procrastinating?
Reading.
What song do you listen to for inspiration?
k.d. lang’s version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
Which word do you overuse?
I use “so” a lot. I use it to connect my thoughts.
Who would you like to work with most?
US Senator Elizabeth Warren (pictured above with Premier Wynne). I actually met her during a recent trip to Washington and we talked about the importance of better pensions and retirement security. I admire her strong leadership and determination.
Which talent or superpower would you like to have?
I’d like to be able to stretch time. There never seem to be enough hours in the day!
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My children — Chris, Jessie and Maggie.
