I am already subscribed to CERIC’s mailing lists. Do I need to sign up again?
Yes. Canada’s new anti-spam legislation (CASL) requires express consent from every individual on an email list. Therefore, you must resubscribe in order to ensure there is documented proof that you wish to be receiving our communications.
Can you just resubscribe me?
Because the law says that we must have verifiable express consent from each individual, CERIC requires that all subscribers complete the subscription form themselves.
I received an email from CERIC indicating I needed to resubscribe if I want to continue receiving your publications. Is this spam?
The email is not spam. We are trying to move all of our subscribers towards compliance with the new law. As such, you will need to resubscribe.
Why does the sign-up form request information such as my address?
In addition to email communications, we also send free valuable resources such as Careering magazine via mail. As a charitable organization, we are particularly mindful of the cost of having out-of-date mailing addresses and so want to ensure their currency and completeness.
I would like to resubscribe but want to receive only email not print. What should I do?
If you do not wish to provide your mailing address, please just enter “n/a” for “not applicable” or similar in those fields.
I filled out the subscription form and submitted my information, but I still have not received my confirmation email.
Sometimes system-generated emails go directly to junk mail folders or are blocked by firewalls. If the confirmation is not in your junk mail folder, try resubmitting your information again.
What will you do with the contact information I provide?
Your contact information will only be used by CERIC to send you resources and updates for which you subscribed. Further information on CERIC’s collection and use of any personal information can be found in our Privacy Policy.
Can I decide to unsubscribe in the future?
You can unsubscribe, change your preferences or update your contact information at any time by clicking on the links that are found at the bottom of each email we send you.
I can’t remember whether or not I’ve already resubscribed.
You would have had to have resubscribed since Monday, April 7, 2014. After resubscribing, you should have received an email confirmation. If you are not sure, you can just resubscribe again.
