Depicting a very busy and fruitful year, the 2012 Annual Report reflects on CERIC’s continued commitment to providing enhanced and accessible supports to career development professionals so they could better help Canadians in their path to productive work and meaningful careers.

In a first, CERIC has created a publicly available annual report in order to share more broadly its work as a charitable organization. “While CERIC has always focused on circulating its research and learning resources among the career development professionals who can use them, we want to shine a brighter light on efforts to advance the field,” says Riz Ibrahim, CERIC’s Vice-President & General Manager.

In their annual report message, Ibrahim along with CERIC Board Chair Nancy Dube, General Manager of the Sudbury YMCA, outline the three strategic priorities that direct CERIC’s efforts:  Research & Learning; Community & Collaboration; and Advocacy & Profile.

The report also highlights CERIC’s many significant achievements over the past year, including:

  • Presented the Cannexus12 National Career Development Conference, attracting 732 delegates to explore innovative approaches in the field;
  • Engaged in research projects to better understand how hope contributes to career outcomes and where emerging green jobs are in Canada;
  • Released the findings of our national survey of career professionals with over 1,000 respondents, examining their challenges and professional development needs;
  • Began to revitalize our ContactPoint/OrientAction online communities for career development professionals through site redesigns;
  • Published “A Multi-Sectoral Approach to Career Development: A Decade of Canadian Research”, the 10th anniversary Canadian Journal of Career Development (CJCD) special edition book; and
  • Initiated the launch of Careering magazine – a transformation from a newsletter to a glossy professional periodical enhancing the profile of career professionals.

CERIC’s project partnership funding, strategic programs and new initiatives are elaborated on further in the report and an overview of financial performance in 2012 is included. Special thanks went to CERIC’s funder, The Counselling Foundation of Canada, as well as CERIC’s Board of Directors, Advisory Committees, staff and broad network of supporting organizations.
