Interactive Training Inventory

Introducing the Human Resources Development Canada Interactive Training Inventory (ITI), a new database of educational and training opportunities available on the Internet.

This electronic database is currently designed to cover all of Ontario and is currently being promoted in the Toronto/York Region areas by the Possibilities Project. The ITI database has the potential for National implementation.

The ITI is a centralized place to post course information and reach potential trainees. It is unique because education /training providers register themselves by submitting a password and updating their own course offerings. People who want to learn, update their skills or start their own business can search the ITI using various search criteria. There is absolutely no fee for posting or viewing training information.

The initiative has registered 252 training organizations and over 1300 courses to date in the Toronto/York area. They had a successful web launch on March 6, 1998 and now hope to promote the site to people seeking training.

Bursary Available for Collaborative Career Development Practitioner Program

Bursary application forms are now available for a collaborative program leading to a certificate from Conestoga College and a degree from the University of Guelph, the University of Waterloo or Wilfrid Laurier University. The bursary is available to part-time students who have been admitted to The Career Development Practitioner program at Conestoga College and who are also working toward a degree or upgrading at one of the universities listed above.

Bursaries in the amount of $300 per course will be awarded 3 times a year. A student who qualifies may receive up to 2 bursaries for 2 courses per semester. Applications for upcoming semesters must be received at the OAYEC Office no later than March 15, July 15 and November 15 for semesters beginning in the first week of May, September and January respectively. The deadline has been extended to April 15 for courses given during the spring/summer semester 1998.

Courses leading to the certificate are available via Internet/Distance Education. Financial support for this collaborative program is provided by The Counselling Foundation of Canada.
