Penny Freno is the Career Account Manager for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University, Career Services. Ms. Freno brings 15 years’ experience (10 of those years at SFU) in post-secondary education to her current work. In her role as a career educator she works one-on-one with undergraduate and graduate level students and new graduates. Ms. Freno also develops and facilitates workshops spanning a range of career development and work search topics. She is keenly interested in the non-linear approach to career development and the connection between career services and student retention within post-secondary education.
Prior to moving into her current role, Ms. Freno oversaw the day-to-day operation of Career Services at SFU, leading five full-time staff and volunteer peer educators. Before joining the Career Services team at SFU, she worked as a cooperative education coordinator at Vancouver Island University (formerly Malaspina University-College) in Nanaimo. Ms. Freno has also worked as an employment advisor in community-based contract programs, and administered and facilitated Job Finding Club programs.
Ms. Freno holds an MA in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University, a BA from Carleton University and an Associate Diploma, Public Relations (Mount Royal College, Calgary, AB). Ms. Freno is a member of the BC Career Development Association and the National Career Development Association (NCDA).
