The latest installment of the Texttalks podcast interviews Dr Nancy Arthur, Professor and Associate Dean of Research at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary. The discussion focuses on Arthur’s chapter (with Athabasca University’s Sandra Collings) in the new Career Development Practice in Canada textbook where they explore diversity and social justice as guiding concepts for career development practice.

Arthur co-authored the award-winning book Culture-Infused Counselling. She is also a registered psychologist and works with clients in private practice. Arthur delivers keynotes all over the world and will be keynoting at the Cannexus15 National Career Development Conference in January in Ottawa.

Topics covered in the podcast include:

  • How cultural identity impacts the way a practitioner sees a client
  • The different perceptions of career development among various cultures
  • Applying the Culture-Infused Counselling model
  • Why recognizing diversity is not enough to be a competent career practitioner
  • The responsibility that career development professionals have to advance social justice

Each 30-minute episode features an author providing insights on their chapter in the text and discussing their thoughts on the state of career development in Canada. Past episodes of Texttalks have presented interviews with other career development leaders in Canada, including Phil Jarvis, Roberta Neault, Mark Franklin, and Sandra Boyd and Kim Spurgeon.
