September 12, 1999Career Practitioner Certificate – Malaspina College
There is a new (non-credit) Career Practitioner Certificate program available in Nanaimo, BC, at Malaspina University -College. The program comprises seven core courses plus 30 hours of option courses to complete the certificate. Core courses address timely career development issues like Work in the Changing Economy, Creating and Managing Change, and Working with Employment Barriers & Strengths, as well as counselling theory and assessment.
Courses are offered on a part-time basis, and combine home-study, classroom instruction, assignments and projects.
The program is designed for experienced career practitioners who have basic counselling skills training, three years experience (total) of relevant education and current work experience, and strong reading and writing skills in English. Career Coach Program – Conestoga College
Conestoga College has established a new 5 course program to meet the need of an evolving and expanding career development field. The program is for individuals who would like to work or are working in roles such as peer counsellors, career technicians, job search coaches and job club facilitators.
To be eligible an applicant must have grade 12 and a minimum of two years experience in paid or volunteer work in the career or employment field in the past five years.
Career Coach graduates are eligible to be considered for advanced standing in the Career Development Practitioner program.
The program is available to be taken in a classroom delivery method or through a Web based delivery method. The program will be delivered in a part-time mode.
The courses are:
- Career Counselling and Development
- Career Consulting Techniques 1
- Trends Issues in the New Work Dynamic
- Introduction to Counselling
And one of the following:
- Career Consulting Techniques 2
- Consulting in Career Development: Entrepreneurial and Intrapreneurial Roles
- Group Training and Facilitation
