NETWERCC

Where have all the counsellors gone? If it is the first Wednesday of the month and they are from the Greater Vancouver area, then you’ll most likely find them at NETWERCC. NETWERCC stands for Networking, Education and Training for Workers in Employment, Rehabilitation and Career Counselling. NETWERCC provides monthly seminars and newsletters. Begun in 1985 by Ellen Edwards (originally called APON), the intent is still the same today. It is the chance for professionals in the employment and vocational rehabilitation fields to network and access training.

I have been an employment cousellor and vocational rehabilitation specialist for almost a decade and for most of that I have been a member of NETWERCC. It is an invaluable resource. The monthly training seminars give us insight to various client groups, counselling and marketing skills, funding and program updates from government sources, current labour market information and resources, input to the work toward National Standards, and various career assessment tools. The monthly newsletters include details about the coming NETWERCC seminar, other training information for career practitioners, resources of interest from video to books to Internet, articles on job search and setting up your own business, employment opportunities and member news. In addition, practitioners can receive credits towards their CCRC (Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor) credential.
