Overview of the Webinar
People don’t struggle because they lack information. They struggle because they’re carrying limiting beliefs about careers, identity and what’s possible. This holds true across every age group: students choosing their first direction, adults navigating uncertainty, newcomers building new beginnings, and workers considering reinvention.
Beliefs like:
“It’s too late to change.”
“Work isn’t supposed to be enjoyable.”
“If I make the wrong choice, I’ll never recover.”
“Some opportunities just aren’t for people like me.”
“I need to find my passion before I choose my career.”
When these beliefs are present, career development becomes harder, slower, and in some cases – impossible. As the world of work continues to evolve faster than traditional pathways and expectations, supporting belief change has become an essential capability for anyone working in career development, education, HR, advising or coaching.
This webinar will take a facilitation-based approach to sparking mindset shifts – by creating space for reflection, curiosity and reframing. Participants will explore how challenging myths to create empowering beliefs can unlock engagement, motivation, confidence and meaningful action at any stage of a career journey.
Why career professionals should attend
Increasingly, career development professionals (CDPs) and educators are realizing that myths, beliefs and mindsets – not only access or knowledge – are often the true barriers for the clients.
This webinar invites participants to expand their professional toolkit by learning how to surface, explore and shift limiting beliefs using an approach grounded in curiosity rather than correction. The session will spotlight two complementary career myth tools that support reflective, facilitation-based practice.
Participants will be introduced to CERIC’s new Career Myth Buster quiz, designed primarily for use with students to surface common career myths and prompt reflection and discussion. Through a live experience with the Career Myth Cards, participants will also learn how simple, structured conversations can be used with students, adult learners, jobseekers and clients at any stage to unlock motivation, confidence, and readiness for exploration, even with individuals who are resistant, unsure or overwhelmed.
Attendees will walk away with:
- A deeper understanding of the role beliefs play in career decision-making
- Practical ways to surface and explore common career myths, to support reflection and informed choice
- A facilitation method they can replicate in one-on-one or group settings
- Language, questions and strategies to create psychological safety and spark mindset shifts
- A renewed sense of possibility – not just for students or clients, but for themselves.
By the end of the session, career professionals will feel more confident guiding clients beyond fear, stuckness and uncertainty – toward empowered, hopeful action.
This webinar is ideal for professionals who support career development, guidance, or transition, including:
- Career development practitioners and coaches
- Career educators and guidance counsellors
- Academic advisors and student success professionals
- Workforce development, employment, and settlement professionals
- Managers, HR leaders, and facilitators supporting reskilling, upskilling, or internal mobility
