Experience a story-based method-of-practice and innovative tools of an evidence-based, narrative framework
Career professionals can be influential helping lifelong learners navigate transitions and re-imagine possibilities. Tools that promote readiness, clarification and life design principles are in demand to move beyond traditional efforts. Join this seminar to build skills in narrative career counselling, learn how online storytelling tools can be integrated into practice, and sample and appreciate the face-to-face Who You Are Matters! game, all of which has been successfully used in education, organizations and practice.
Career counselling is experiencing tremendous change, away from assessments that match clients with jobs, toward more holistic modalities that embody narrative approaches, life design principles, happenstance and positive psychology. The CareerCycles narrative method of practice is one approach demonstrating exciting results showing significant increases in hope, optimism, resilience, confidence (collectively, “psychological capital”), curiosity & exploration, and personal growth. These increases are correlated with higher career clarity, job satisfaction and job alignment, moving this method into those which can report evidence-based practice. Underpinning the method, online tools and game is the CareerCycles/OneLifeTools framework, used with over 4,000 diverse clients of all ages and stages, and by 300 career professionals across Canada, the US and Europe.
Designed for helping professionals with or without career development experience, from beginners to seasoned clinicians, this holistic method of practice bridges the divide between personal and career counselling, and between theory and practice. In a dynamic and interactive training featuring presentation, demonstration, role play, game play and time for lively Q & A, you will learn:
- An overview of the CareerCycles framework, its two main processes, and how it has been used to help clients navigate the uncertain world of work and learning
- Skills to listen to stories with a greater understanding, to help clients gather and organize strengths, desires, and other elements into an aggregate online Career Sketch
- How to map what is happening in narrative sessions using online storytelling tools, to guide clients to personalize insights from their stories into a succinct Career Statement
- How a group game experience, and online tools can scale this framework to reach more clients, effectively and efficiently
- Ways to link this narrative approach to traditional career counselling and employment advising
- How to apply this framework effectively with a diversity of clients, in a variety of settings
After completing this session participants will be able to use this new approach right away, access the online tools for six months, and engage in a free follow-up teleconference to aid learning. This session is aligned with CareerCycles’ Level 1 training and the Who You Are Matters! facilitation certification; participants are eligible for a $100 credit when registering toward either or both options at the end of the session.
