March 1, 2001By Robert Shea, Memorial University of Newfoundland
It is with great pleasure that during this years NATCON conference that we will announce a significant partnership between Memorial University of Newfoundland and Contact Point. This partnership will signal a new launch of the Canadian Journal of Career Development.
The Journal was originally established at Memorial University of Newfoundland in late 1999 and since that time the expressions of interest from the career development community both in Canada and abroad has been phenomenal. The interest was so great that it became apparent that if we were to launch a truly professional, peer reviewed publication that would be the quintessential publication on career development research in Canada and abroad that we would have to partner this initiative. We are truly fortunate to have secured such a committed partner as Contact Point. This new partnership will provide an opportunity to reach the several thousand current users of Contact Point and provide an existing national internet vehicle to carry on the original concept.
This continuation of the original call for proposals for the Canadian Journal of Career Development will provide a little extra lead time for those individuals who expressed an interest in publishing their research to further refine that research. It will also provide the partners with enough lead time that when the inaugural edition is published it will be something that the entire career development community in Canada can be proud of. This partnership will signal a new age in the dissemination of current research on the many and varied aspects of career development. The Journal is not intended to be a solely focussed on one field of study or discipline but rather approach career development from a multi-sectoral approach. The Journal invites articles from non profit organizations, the private sector, all levels of the education system, and other individuals who are interested in career development in its many and varied roles. The Journal will provide an avenue for career practitioners to discuss ideas which practitioners can learn from. It is our intention to not only produce a peer reviewed journal that has academic implications but to produce a journal that will provide an opportunity to influence the practice of career development.
The Journal will be peer reviewed by colleagues throughout Canada. We are currently accepting submissions and look forward of being a part of the history of career development in Canada when we launch our inaugural issue. Stay tuned to Contact Point for launch details.
