CACEE 2008 National On-Campus Recruitment Conference, June 1-4, 2008
Over 300 delegates joined together in Montreal June 1-4, 2008, to learn from more than forty-five sessions focusing on the post-secondary school to career transition. Despite the damp weather, golfers, walkers and shoppers enjoyed the pre conference social activities.
For three days, delegates representing institutions and organizations from Victoria to St. John’s shared information, ideas and perspectives regarding on-campus recruitment. Featured speaker Alan Kearns spoke on Branding and the Green Collar Career, and Mike Farrell from Youthography closed the conference with Media in Transition/Culture in Transition.
Topics such as the Latest Trends in Recruiting, the Law and Ethics of Recruiting in Today’s Wired World and Schools, Computing and Second Life were arguably the sessions with the highest attendance demonstrating the challenges faced by both educator and employer delegates in dealing with Web 2.0 and a wired world. Workshops specifically for recruiters included: Employers Best Practices – Recruiting 101 a well received session by Deloitte staff and Future Blue- Best Practices on Building an Effective Student Community at the Workplace by IBM representatives. Faculty Relations- A New Paradigm of Collaboration, Aspiring into Career Centre Management, andLessons Learned from Implementing a Multi- Campus Career Management System were well received by educators.
