Georgian College Announces Adjustment Services Initiative in Dufferin County
Georgian College’s Centre for Career & Employment Services in Orangeville, Ontario has launched a new initiative to assist individuals who are laid off, or with notice of lay off, as a result of the downturn in manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and forestry. The affected workers will have access to the services they need to strengthen their ability to secure new employment in the town of Orangeville and surrounding area of Dufferin County.
The additional services at the Centre for Career & Employment Services will provide our organization the ability to intervene and support the laid-off workers earlier, increase the access adults have to Employment Resource Centre technology and resources, and provide skill development services not presently being offered through the employment programs at Georgian College. It is anticipated that the additional services will assist 150 workers over the next year with employment services including the following: support in career decision making, job search assistance, résumé preparation, employment information workshops, and local labour market information.
The enhanced service capacity of Georgian’s Centre for Career & Employment Services to provide services to displaced workers is part of the Employment Ontario’s strategy to invest in skills development and rapid re-employment services which will help workers and communities respond to the competitive challenges in manufacturing, forestry, agriculture and tourism sectors.
