April 18, 2013CERIC was recognized for its leadership in the field of career development with an award by George Brown College. The Crystal Award for Learning and Leadership Organization was presented at an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of George Brown’s Career & Work Counsellor Program on April 10 in Toronto.
An ongoing supporter of the George Brown program, CERIC has regularly hosted the program’s students for practicums. Students have gained experience by working on CERIC’s ContactPoint website, enhancing their knowledge of the career development job market, building their professional networks and gaining knowledge of the latest resources through online research.
CERIC’s continued and consistent delivery of learning and leadership that aligned with the ideals of the award was why George Brown considered CERIC to be deserving of the honour.
The criteria for the 4th Annual Crystal Awards included:
- Playing a significant role in national, provincial or regional committees to advance the work and profession of career and employment counselling
- Being a subject matter expert and being called upon for that expertise
- Having significant activity in providing professional development to practitioners in the field
- Providing leadership in the profession
- Providing leadership and development to staff as managers, supervisors, co-ordinators and/or mentors
- Creating and implementing policy and programs that impact the delivery of service to our clients
In accepting the award, CERIC’s Vice-President & General Manager Riz Ibrahim thanked CERIC staff for their role in mentoring the George Brown students and made special mention of Catherine Ducharme, who currently co-ordinates the practicums for ContactPoint.
