Views on labour market, training obligations and soft skills differ by employer size

Canada’s largest employers are more likely to say that the skills gap has become worst compared to their small business counterparts, according to CERIC’s latest analysis of its Career Development in the Workplace: National Business Survey. The new findings present a breakdown of survey results by employer size—fewer than 10 employees, 10 to 49 employees, 50 to 99 employees, 100 to 499 employees, and more than 500 employees.

New literature searches focus on vocational education and prior learning

CERIC looks at Vocational Education and Training in Canada and Prior Learning Assessment Recognition, as the topics for its latest literature searches. Vocational education focuses on individuals in school for a specific trade, while prior learning assessments take previous education and/or life experiences into account when considering whether or not someone can obtain credit in a specific area.

Free Legitimate Opportunities to Work from Home resources now available

Materials produced from the Legitimate Opportunities to Work from Home project are now available for free online. Created to educate career professionals, these resources allow practitioners to work confidently with clients who are seeking work-from-home opportunities and want to avoid the scams. The project also helped practitioners to engage traditionally underserved client groups including people with disabilities, rural communities, Aboriginal communities, newcomers, caregivers and older workers.
