CERIC has announced the recipients of its Graduate Student Award, providing support for four graduate students to attend the Cannexus National Career Development Conference, January 23-25, 2017 in Ottawa.
Transitioning from post-secondary studies to next steps has always been an exciting but somewhat anxious time for students. With the pervasiveness of online media, terms such as “gig economy” and “precarious work” have entered the lexicon of students and their parents and are influencing how they view the world of work. Those of us who work with youth, especially at a university or college career centre, can attest to a sense of anxiety amongst the population we serve. As career professionals, we also have a role to play in helping students understand how what they’re currently doing supports their future goals.
CERIC roadshows are back this fall, across three cities in Canada for a series of free networking breakfast meetings, where attendees will hear from Dr Laura Hambley, author of CERIC’s Making It Work! How to Effectively Manage Maternity Leave Career Transitions: An Employer’s Guide.
Along with The Counselling Foundation of Canada, CERIC is supporting the Metcalf Foundation in partnership with the Aspen Institute’s Economic Opportunities Program to launch the Toronto Sector Skills Academy.
CERIC is now making available regional breakdowns of its 2015 CERIC Survey of Career Service Professionals for Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario, Prairies and British Columbia. The survey provides a demographic snapshot (education, experience, salary) as well as examines professional development needs and research trends.
CERIC’s Insight into Canadian Post-Secondary Career Service Models project has been awarded to PSE Information Systems, led by Dr Peter Dietsche and Jim Lees. The project will establish the importance that both Francophone and Anglophone universities and colleges place on the provision of career development services to their students and highlight “impressive models” of career services across the country.
CERIC is governed by a pan-Canadian volunteer Board of Directors reflecting a broad sectoral representation in the field of career development. Jennifer Browne, Associate Director of Student Life at Memorial University of Newfoundland, takes over as Chair of the CERIC Board.
CERIC is partnering for the first time with the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) to offer a special 3-part webinar series on Measuring and Managing Performance-Based Outcomes in Post-Secondary Career Centres, presented by renowned consultant and trainer Sarah Delicate.
