1900 – 2000: A Century of Women and Work is the companion booklet to “A Century of Women and Work” Art Exhibit sponsored by the Ontario Federation of Labour and the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre. It is a short, lush book honouring the work of current artists as they, in turn, honour the memory of the women who built the labour movement over the previous century. The book is divided into ten chapters- each focusing on a decade. The chapters begin with a work of art and the artist’s statement. The art varies in style and media, and most are well displayed. Unfortunately, some do not show well in this small form. Only the acrylic-on-canvas paintings are best served by the book.

The process of transitioning from being an employee to being self-employed unfolded like a well orchestrated musical. Indeed, each day that I report to my home- based office as a Career Coach in private practice, my heart sings joyfully. Duty makes us do things well, but love makes us do them beautifully. In the past two years, I have discovered the truth of this particular saying.
The Career Management Association of BC is a membership driven professional association representing BC’s Career Development Practitioners. CMA was initially launched in 1996 as the Labour Market and Career Information Association, a grassroots consortium that was concerned by the need for access to quality career and labour market information.
Contact Point was first launched in 1997 at a national conference sponsored by The Counselling Foundation of Canada. It was the first website of its kind to offer a unique online space for interaction and networking among career professionals across Canada, as well as provide relevant information, professional development opportunities and resources. Now, 10 years later, Contact Point remains an integral component of the career counselling field in Canada. In April 2007, at the premiere CANNEXUS conference hosted by CERIC (the Canadian Education and Research Institute for Counselling), Contact Point held a reception to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Here it is 2007 and our workplace is now made up of personnel from all four generations – a first in history. Isn’t that exciting? Yes it is, unless you are possibly the one trying to make sense out of it all as you try to get people to work together and maybe, just possibly, like each other!
