CERIC has announced the recipients of its Graduate Student Award, providing support for four graduate students to attend the Cannexus National Career Development Conference, January 25-27, 2016 in Ottawa.
The Cannexus16 Preliminary Programme is now available, with more than 130 education sessions on the latest research, trends and best practices in career development. Topics range from coaching techniques to marginalized populations to entrepreneurship. The 2016 conference will also include a series of sessions focused around workforce planning and development.
On average 5,000 Canadian Armed Forces personnel will exit the military each year and face unique challenges and opportunities in successfully transitioning to civilian careers and further educational opportunities. To help meet this need, a set of bilingual resources, Military to Civilian Employment: A Career Practitioner’s Guide, will be developed for Canadian career service professionals to use in working with veterans.
The latest issue of The Canadian Journal of Career Development has just been published and is available to view online. This edition of the journal provides new research in several topical areas including career education at the junior high level, job development for internationally educated professionals and the increasingly popular narrative method of practice.
CERIC is partnering with the Career Development Association of PEI (CDA PEI) to support its “Career Matters 2015” conference, taking place on Thursday, October 8 in Summerside, PE.
A new study funded by CERIC will examine how Canadians in their 50s, 60s and 70s are seeking out second and third careers as “retirement” is redefined. The project, led by York University’s Suzanne L. Cook, will also look at how career professionals can best assist older adults in their career development.
CERIC will once again be offering a series of roadshows, this time travelling within Ontario. The events feature Cathy Campbell, author of CERIC’s newly released book Career Crafting the Decade After High School: Professional’s Guide.

Marking 10 years of advancing the body of knowledge in career development in Canada, CERIC has released its 2014 Annual Report. The annual report charts CERIC’s growth over the past decade and highlights key milestones, showcases major projects and reflects on the impact it has had on career development professionals and the Canadians they support.
In partnership with Regroupment Québécois des organismes pour le développement de l’employabilité (RQuODE), CERIC will fund a new guide to assist those working with Inuit clientele in Montreal and Nunavik (Northern Quebec). The guide is to be available in both English and French.
